Thursday, June 10th, 2010Dogwood Dell, home to the Festival of Arts, is a 2.400 seat amphitheatre owned and operated by the City of Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities. Since 1956, the Festival of Arts has been based at Dogwood Dell and is a summer long celebration of the arts featuring concerts, dance and theatre – an eclectic mix of old and new. The festival brings some of the most innovative avant-garde performers along with those who personify the value and importance of traditional classic works. During June, July, and August, a variety of shows including classical music and dance, drama, comedy, musical theater, reggae, pop, swing, rhythm and blues, rock, jazz, and contemporary music will fill the ‘Dell.” Here’s the schedule beginning with season opener June 11th with the Upper East Side Big Band at 8 PM. Take a seat or bring a blanket and enjoy each and every show all season long.

Sunday, June 28th, 2009Make your plans to enjoy the Fourth of July holiday in Richmond, Virginia. Just down the street to Boulevard and across the bridge over the highway (only about 1 1/2 miles from the William Miller House Bed and Breakfast in Richmond, you’ll find Byrd Park and Dogwood Dell.
Dogwood Dell is a 2,400 seat amphitheatre owned and operated by the Richmond Department of Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities and located in Byrd Park. Since 1956, it has been home to the Festival of Arts; a summer long celebration of the arts featuring art exhibits, concerts, dance and theatre. In addition to these events, the Festival of Arts also incorporates a children’s series with performances at our Ha’ Penny stage. The Festival of Arts offers approximately fifty or more shows which were attended by over 100,000 people last year. With its eclectic mix of old and new, the Festival of Arts has become one of Richmond’s cultural treasures. Throughout June, July, and August, a variety of shows can be enjoyed at the “Dell” including classical music and dance; drama, comedy, and musical theatre; reggae, pop, swing, rhythm and blues, rock, jazz and contemporary music concerts. The Festival of Arts is flavored for every taste. Best of all, the shows are FREE!
And the Fourth of July is something really great – a patriotic extravaganza including music, fireworks and sounds of canons and more!
Bak N Da Day – Rhythm & Blues Harmonies kicks off the show at 5 pm
Carillon Bell Concert is planned for 6:30 pm
The Richmond Concert Band will perform both patriotic and popular music beginning at 7 pm
And, naturally fireworks will follow. What would a Fourth of July celebration be without fireworks?
Come early for a seat in the amphitheatre or bring a blanket to sit in the surrounding park. Bring a picnic and enjoy the summer evening.
