Strolls along the historic Fan Districts street’s and avenues present picture postcards around every corner! Back at the inn, the living room/parlor boasts a warm fire and a fine place to sit and relax with a steaming cup of hot chocolate or a glass of wine. Each of our guest rooms boasts its own individually controlled thermostat so you may bring your sleeping quarters to whatever temperature you find comfortable. Each comfy bed is dressed in high-thread count linens, a quilt, and, during turn-down, a comforter/duvet is added – along with the next day’s weather forecast and a sweet treat. You’re sure to be warm and cozy; so join us for a winter in-town get-away. Our local restaurants are still open, many are offering specials to encourage diners to visit. Our hearty gourmet breakfast is sure to stick to your ribs as you venture outside. This is your chance to wind down to a slower pace and remember how fun snow can be.

It began Friday afternoon and switched over to rain and sleet throughout the evening and night hours. Saturday morning brought more snow, heavy at times. Early Saturday armed with shovels we cleared the walks and driveway of the snow and frozen slush on top, hoping to make an easier job of cleanup when the snow finished. It finally finished Saturday evening around 5 or 6 PM. Today, Sunday, the skies are a beautiful blue and the snow on the ground is a sight to behold!

Shoveling is completed, now we wait for the sun to complete the job and melt the snow on the brick sidewalk. It is bright and sunny, not the partly cloudy the weather folks predicted.

The daphne odoros are covered in snow, just as the blooms were starting to get full and turn pink. The star magnolias were ready to burst into bud, and we hope that this doesn’t set them back too much — or that they were so far along that the snow has damaged them.

The birds are relishing the newly-filled bird feeder and they are chirping their thanks as I stand at the window with a cup of hot steaming coffee!

Here are a few more scenes from around the garden….featuring nature in all her glory

Mother Nature left snow caps on our ornaments hanging on the dogwood tree outside.

In the kitchen garden, the wellhouse has snow on the roof, the rosemary is all askew and the old upright yew in our yard has branches that are spreading out and down – not pointing skyward like they did before the storm. Some our worst ever storms come up from the south and that is what this one did.

It is still snowing but to give you an idea of how much snow we have, there’s about 7 or 8 inches on the table and chairs outside in the yard. What do you think? Well, I’ve got to suit up and go help shovel the sidewalks! My people will think I am lazing about if I don’t get out there. Maybe they will forgive me if I bring them some hot chocolate!
