Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz staged at the Landmark Theater March 10-28, 2010

Tickets are going fast, so get yours now! I’m sure you’ll enjoy the music, the set, the costumes, the actors and actresses, the story – everything just over the top.  Best of all, the Landmark Theater is one of Richmond’s historic buildings, built in 1926 by the Shriners as their ACCA Temple Shrine. Originally, plans included a 4,600 seat theater, four lounges, six lobbies, 18 dressing rooms, 42 hotel rooms, a gymnasium, locker rooms, a pool, a three-lane bowling alley, offices and a restaurant.  The City of Richmond purchased the Landmark, formerly called the Mosque, in 1940 and embarked on a renovation in 1994-5.  Seating is now limited to 3,565 and the ballroom can host galas for up to 1,100. The splendor of its Moorish architecture, vibrantly tiled walls, paintings, rich fabrics and chandeliers, make a visit to the Landmark for Broadway shows, symphony, ballet, children’s theater, lectures, concerts, school commencements, fashion shows or The Richmond Forum well worth the price of a ticket.

Next year’s Broadway in Richmond series has already been announced and includes “Hal Holbrook: Mark Twain Tonight,” which is on stage October 2, 2010, “A Chorus Line,” beginning December 3, “The Color Purple,” beginning January  28, 2011, “The Wizard of Oz,” which starts March 25, and “Beauty and the Beast” beginning April 29.  Make sure your theatre plans include an overnight stay at the William MIller House, Richmond’s bed and breakfast lodging option, within an easy walking distance of  the Landmark, which puts your car parking worries and traffic congestion behind you.
